🎏Fishing🐟
The fishing mechanics are a simple yet interactive, and fun way of gathering.
To begin fishing, you first need to make sure you have a fishing rod. This can be either the Basic Rod or the Professional Fishing Rod. If you don’t have one yet, check the Crafting page to learn how to craft a Basic Rod, or visit the Mainstore to find the Professional version.
Attach your rod and head to any Linden water source (the very realistic-looking water that is always found at the ground level of a region).
If you are using the Basic Rod, the mechanics are simplified and quick:
- Click the attached rod and select “Cast” to begin.
- Your avatar will start a fishing animation, and a countdown timer will appear as hover text over the rod, as well as in local chat.
- When a fish bites, you will get a chat notice and a popup menu will appear in the corner of your viewer.
- Once this popup appears, you have a short 2 to 3-second window to click either “Hook” or “Release”.
- Hook: If you select this within the time limit, you catch the fish! You receive the actual fish in your inventory along with Fishing XP.
- Release: If you select this, you catch and instantly release the fish back into the water. You will not get the fish in your inventory, but you still receive the Fishing XP.
The main difference between these options depends on whether you need the fish for food and score, or if you are simply fishing for sport and XP (allowing you to level up without cluttering your inventory).
Note: Keep in mind that the Basic Rod has durability points and limited uses. If it breaks, you will have to craft another one! It also has a limited loot table, meaning there are only a few types of fish you can catch with it.
If you are using the Professional Fishing Rod, the core process is nearly identical, but with a few major upgrades:
- No Durability, Just Bait: This rod does not break. Instead, its uses are limited by how much Bait you have.
- The Tackle Box: The rod features a built-in “Tackle Box” (this is an internal inventory of 5 slots inside the rod itself, not a separate item). You can load up to 5 different types of bait into it and select which one you want to use from the menu.
- Better Rewards: Unlike the Basic Rod, the Professional Rod gives you access to all possible fish and reward options. The loot varies depending on the bait you use, and if you are lucky, you can even fish up rare items!
The Fishing Mini-Game: Once you have selected your bait and cast your line, you wait for the bite just like before. However, the popup menu is a bit trickier! You still need to click “Hook” or “Release” within the quick 2 to 3-second window, but the menu will now include decoy buttons that do “Nothing”. The order of these buttons is totally random every time. This ensures you are paying attention and gives the fishing mini-game some extra interactivity!
That covers how fishing works for now. There are plans to update and improve this system even more as time goes on, so stay tuned!
