đź“’Starter Guideđź–Š

This survival guide will help you get started and teach you how to survive using the bare minimum amount of resources.

Technically, to survive indefinitely, all you need is a reliable source of food and water. Your other needs can easily be restored by using furniture equipped with the respective system scripts.

One of the most important early-game items to have is a Tree, which provides a daily source of Wood. Gathering wood allows you to begin crafting basic survival items. If you don’t have a tree, visit the Mainstore to find one. Don’t forget that you will need an Axe to chop it down! (If you want to learn more about Tools, Crafting, or Gathering, check their respective pages).

Once you have collected a Log, chop it into smaller pieces of Wood using the Woodcutting Spot. This station can be crafted, but it is also included as a free item in the Free Starter Pack (available at the Mainstore).

Now that you have Wood, it’s time to attach the Crafting HUD. Open the Craft menu and select the Basic Rod. You will see it requires 2 Sticks and 1 Plant Fiber. You likely already received these from chopping the tree, but if you need more Sticks, you can craft them from the Wood you just chopped using the same Crafting HUD.

Once you have your Basic Rod, you have a tool that can easily provide you with free food in the early game.

If you grabbed the Free Starter Pack, you will also have a Bowl. Bring your Basic Rod and your Bowl, and head to your nearest water source. (Note: This must be official Linden water—the realistic-looking water usually found at the ground level of a region).

Stand very close to the water source; if your feet are touching the water, you are in a good spot. Click your attached Basic Rod to begin Fishing. After you catch a few Fish, detach the Rod and attach the Bowl. Click the Bowl and select the “Fill” option to collect dirty water from your current location. Once filled, you can return to your home or camp.

Now that we have raw food and dirty water, we need to prepare them for consumption. To do this, we must craft a Campfire, which requires 4 Stones. To gather Stone, you will need a Gathering Node (Big Rock) and a Pickaxe to mine it. If you don’t have a Big Rock, you can find one at the Mainstore. (Tip: I highly recommend getting the Survival Starter Pack, which includes basic tools, food, and gathering nodes).

After mining the Stone, rez 4 pieces on the ground as close to your avatar as possible, and use the Crafting HUD to make a Campfire.

Once it’s crafted, rez the Campfire. You will notice it looks like just a pile of stones—that is because it needs fuel! Take the Wood you got earlier from the Log and cut it into smaller pieces called Firewood (Using the Woodcutting Spot). Rez 4 pieces of Firewood next to the Campfire, click the Campfire, and select the “Fuel” button to light it.

Now we can prepare our meal:

  • Cooking Food: Simply rez the Fish directly on top of or very close to the Campfire. Click the Campfire, select the “Cook” option to see available recipes, pick the Fish, and wait for the timer. That’s it! You have successfully cooked your first meal.
  • Purifying Water: Place your Bowl of dirty water as close to the lit Campfire as possible. Click the Bowl itself and select “Boil”. This begins the purification process. Once finished, you can safely drink the clean water directly from the Bowl or transfer it to another container.

This simple cycle can be repeated as many times as needed to keep you alive using minimal resources.

Moving Forward: Keep in mind, this is just a basic survival guide for players wanting to operate with the absolute minimum. As you progress, you can do much more advanced things to thrive: Farm for better ingredients, raise Animals for byproducts and their meat, Craft advanced cooking stations for high-quality meals. You can find all the information for these advanced mechanics on the main Documentation page!
